Cherokee came out in game one looking like a team that is not just competing this season, but fully locked in on a state title run. The energy, the confidence, and the way they shared the ball all pointed to a group that understands the assignment. Senior guard Madison Moody and sophomore guard Ansley Dunn set the tone early and never eased up.
Moody was in complete flamethrower mode, splashing 6 triples and finishing with 22 points. Her shooting stroke and deep range give strong Caitlin Clark vibes, and when she gets rolling the entire gym feels it. Dunn matched her with 22 of her own and controlled the game with high level maturity. She is shifty, crafty, and plays with a calm command that keeps everyone steady. Her finishes at the rim and decision making were elite for a sophomore.
Cherokee's wings added to the show. Senior Lyla Griffith poured in 19 points and brought toughness and pace on both ends. Sage Smiley added 15 and gave them another reliable scoring option who plays within the flow of the team.
This was a complete performance. High level energy, unselfish basketball, and a group that clearly believes in each other. If Cherokee plays like this consistently, they will be a serious problem when the postseason hits.
