Chattahoochee picked up its first win of the season in dramatic fashion at the Wood Elite Tip-Off Classic, defeating Excel Christian 70-68 in a game that came down to the final possession. The senior duo of and Josh Coleman set the tone and carried the Cougars when it mattered most. Campbell finished with 15 points, with 10 of them coming in the second half as he settled in and made key plays down the stretch.
Coleman led all Chattahoochee scorers with eighteen points, attacking the paint, getting to the free throw line, and knocking down timely shots from the perimeter. This win came at the perfect moment for Chattahoochee as they look to build momentum and find their rhythm early in the season.
Excel Christian refused to go away and delivered one of the most resilient second half pushes of the night. Junior guard, DaMir McBride was at the center of it, using his on ball defensive pressure to create steals and easy offense. He led all scorers with 20 points and nearly delivered a storybook ending. McBride hit a tough jumper at the buzzer, but the shot was waved off after officials ruled he stepped out of bounds before releasing it. His impact was undeniable and he was the spark that fueled Excel Christian's comeback.
Junior guard, Mier Bell added 17 points, all of them coming in the second half as Excel Christian turned up the intensity. His scoring burst gave them life and helped swing momentum back in their favor. If this backcourt can string together full games with the same energy and production they showed in the second half, Excel Christian will be a tough matchup for anyone and should pick up meaningful wins throughout the season.
It was an incredible game start to finish and both teams walked away with positives. For Chattahoochee, the senior leadership stepped up. For Excel Christian, the backcourt proved they can battle with anyone.
